Item | Why | Buy from Amazon |
---|---|---|
Keyboard / Piano | We learn fast! Youâll need a keyboard or piano for the first lesson. | Our favorite starter keyboard (~$100) |
Tablet (preferred) / laptop | Youâll be propping the tablet on your piano where sheet music normally goes so the teacher can both talk with the student and share music. | Any tablet works! |
Cell phone | Weâll be using the phoneâs camera and audio for the lesson. A parentâs phone is fine! | n/a |
Cell phone stand | The stand will make sure the teacher has a clear view of the student. Feel free to use a tripod you already have thatâs about 60â. | Great $20 tripod |
Dry erase marker | Used to mark up keys (optional, but great to have) | We like Expo, but any brand or color is fine |
Keyboard stickers | Another way to label keys (optional) | < $5 stickers |
A few minutes before your lesson, put the tablet in front of your student and the phone to the side of your student and angled down so the teacher can see the student AND the piano/keyboard. And yes, you can wear PJs to your lesson.
On your phone, please enable the following settings for Zoom to pick up piano audio.
Open Zoom app and sign in
Open the more menu on the lower right
Once the menu is open, scroll down to the Settings section and tap Audio
For Audio profile, select Original sound
(If this is not under Audio it will be under Meetings)
During the lesson make sure âOriginal Sound is ONâ in the more section. You will need to enable this every lesson.
